A few tips…

Without naming names… For those of you attempting to write graduate school application software (i.e., web forms), please keep the following hints in mind:

  1. If a form requests an applicant’s social security number, it should be encrypted via. SSL.
  2. If a form has a field whose maximum number of characters is 32 (and if by typing in more than 32 characters - for example, “North Georgia College and State University” - an SQL error is produced, erasing the entire session AT THE END OF THE PROCESS, AFTER SPENDING A HALF HOUR FILLING THE $#@! THING OUT), this little nugget of information should be noted on the form somewhere.
  3. If someone e-mails the IT department asking why they received an SQL error while attempting to apply to the graduate program in social psychology, they should get a response within, say, oh… I don’t know… maybe two or three days. This is especially relevant if they are filling out an application on Dec. 9th and the deadline is Dec. 15th.

Thanks. Have a nice day. God bless. :-p
