I Hate News Corp.

Actually, no, I don’t. But these people sure do. From their profile on MySpace:

This group is for people who recognize the fact that Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. inhibits freedom of the press by claiming ownership of a significant percentage of global media. How can we have diverse opinions if one man declares his messager to be fact?

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that a group whose existence is facilitated by News Corp. is criticizing News Corp. for “inhibiting freedom of the press”? That is to say, if they’re so hot about crushing dissent and preventing the expression of “diverse opinions” (as if that’s what the news media is supposed to be about - how silly), why are they allowing a group named “I Hate News Corp.” to operate on their servers? Shouldn’t they be wielding their mighty iron fist of corporate oppression and silencing their critics?

They almost recognize the irony. But not quite:

This group also represents a strong sense of disappointment with MySpace.com for selling their entity to the News Corp. Yes, we know you are in the business of advertising, and we “social-networkers” do not pay for this service. But c’mon guys/girls, News Corp??????

They completely miss the point. But maybe getting it was asking a bit much of them.

Yes, I realize this is of no consequence whatsoever; it’s really just amusing. I feel that there must be some sort of literary reference to this - something that can, by way of analogy, truly express how absurd the situation really is.

If I think of one, I’ll update the post.
